Kate's love of dance began at age 3. When her family moved to Stouffville, Ontartio when she was 6, she began training at the Stouffville Dance Centre under the direction of Michele Green. She was trained in R.A.D. ballet, Graham technique and tap. The Dance Centre went under the new direction of Deborah Radboure by the time Kate was accepted to the arts program formally known as Arts York at Unionville High School. During that time Kate continued her training in ballet, Graham and tap, but also studied Limon, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop and musical theatre.
Upon graduating high school with a specialty diploma from Arts York, Kate enrolled at Ryerson University in their Performance Dance Program under the direction of Nadia Potts. While there she was trained in ballet (Maureen Consolati, Nadia Potts), modern (Karen Duplisea, Kenny Pearl, Robert Glumbek, Christopher House, Johanna Bergfelt, Allen Kaeja), jazz (Vicki St. Denys, Derek Sangster, Stelio Calagias), acting (Marianne McIsaac, Diana Reis), voice and music (Irene Pauzer, David Walden, Rigzin Tute, Allen Cole), and creative performance studies (Sheldon Rosen). Academic courses in her training at Ryerson included dramaturgy, anatomy, English, philosophy, entrepreneurship, art and theatre histories. She also had the pleasure of working with esteemed choreographers such as Darryl Tracy and Allen Kaeja as well as being involved with work by her peers. In her fourth year, Kate choreographed and produced her first full length production called "Touch and Go" as part of Ryerson's New Voices festival. She has earned her BFA in Performance Dance as well as her Intermediate Vocational R.A.D. with merit from Ryerson. Upon graduation, Kate worked to complete her FIS and PTS from CanFit, and delved into the world of fitness through DivaGirl Fitness and King West Fitness.
In her career thus far, Kate has had the honor of working with some of the most amazing talent Toronto has to offer. Favourite past performances include shows with Love Letters Cabaret (Pastel Supernova Enterprises), Becoming Burlesque (Toronto Fringe 2015),Iphigenia in Tauris (Canadian Opera Company), Circus Terrifico, Perspectives, Carmina Burana, A Christmas Carol (Motus O), Cats, A Chorus Line, Titanic: the Musical, Steam Heat: A Fosse Celebration (Curtain Call Players), Fever and Fever II (Sophie Luxton), Table Talk, Four Forces to Building Your Soul (for Dance Ontario Weekend 2010 and 2011 with City Dance Corps), as well as regular past performances with Coco Framboise, DivaGirl Entertainment, Diamond Dancers, and Nuvo-Burlesque (now known as Army of Sass). Companies and clients Kate has danced and/or choreographed for include Second City Toronto, Fallsview Casino, MuchMusic, Sleeman's, Volvo, Oreo, Walmart, the Drake Hotel and the Flight Centre.
Currently, Kate is producing and choreographing shows as co-artistic director of High Society Cabaret, and regularly performs under the stage name Knox Harter. She is sought-after teacher and choreographer with over 16 years of experience. Studios Kate has taught at include City Dance Corps, The National Ballet of Canada's InStudio, Metro Movement, Millennium Dance Complex and Underground Dance Centre. She is a certified teacher of Kaeja d'Dance's Express Dance Program and Kaeja Elevations program. Kate continues to work as a freelance coach, instructor, dancer and performer, and has been praised as one of the most versatile and engaging performers in Toronto. When she's not dancing, Kate enjoys good food, a good nap and the occasional video game. Always a lady of leisure, she has been known to indulge in the finer things in life, such as spa days and dinner dates with herself or her partner. Kate values the time she has off, and the company she spends it with. She is very lucky to have such wonderful and loving support from her family and friends. Some of Kate's other interests include museums and galleries, playing tourist (in her city or a foreign one), finding new and interesting music, long walks (with good music or good conversation), camping, hitting the gym, or just spending quality time with the people she loves.
